Dr. Maria Tsami is a Transport (PhD) and Spatial Planning and Development (B.Eng. & MSc) Engineer, holding also an MSc degree in Information and Communication Computer Systems and Technologies (ICS & ICT) with specialization in Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Autonomous Agents & Multi Agent Systems and Collective Intelligence. She holds a PhD degree in Transport Modeling and Machine Learning Techniques from the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Thessaly and her doctoral thesis is entitled “Modeling the Impact of Transit Quality of Service on User Mode and Route Choices”.
Her core research activity focuses on transport modeling and machine learning techniques, focusing on urban transport applications and Quality of Service research.
Dr. Maria Tsami is a post doctoral researcher in the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) and Head of the Laboratory D1: Intelligent and personalized algorithms for combined transport and tourism services. She is also a post doctoral researcher fellow of the Traffic, Transportation and Logistics Laboratory (TTLog) at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Thessaly
She has been involved in numerous national and European projects and actions related to transportation planning, modeling and monitoring (urban-interurban), road safety, resilience management, social behavior of travelers, transit assignment, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Mobility as a Service (MaaS) and automated systems and technologies.

She has also conducted research regarding the social networks, including game theory analysis, social networks effects and collective intelligence. She has been a member of the COST action TU1004 (Modelling Public Transport Passenger Flows in the Era of Intelligent Transport Systems) and the COST action TU1305 (Social networks and travel behaviour). She has participated in numerous national and international conferences and workshops, and she has in her record more than 60 publications including scientific papers published in journals and conference proceedings, scientific books and book chapters.
