Maria Chatziathanasiou was born in Athens, Greece, in 1980. She is a Civil Engineer of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH.), Greece, since 2005. In 2007, she acquired her MSc diploma on “Design, Organization and Management of Transportation Systems” from A.U.TH. Since 2005, she has worked, as a freelance civil and transport engineer, mostly in the field of public traffic, parking and environmental studies. Since November 2010, she works as a Research Associate in the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT), of the Centre of Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). Her research and job interest focuses mainly on the field of macro simulation, demand and mobility management, development of sustainable mobility systems, as well as on the training of minors on road safety issues and mobility behavior. She is the author of many scientific papers.
