On Wednesday, May 25, 2022, within the framework of the FENIX project (CEF / TRAN / M2016 / 1364071), a technical demonstration was held at the Container Terminal of the Port of Piraeus. The meeting was organized by the project implementing bodies, the Hellenic Institute of Transport of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (HIT/CERTH) and the ISENSE Group research team of the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), in close cooperation with PCT S.A., the freight terminal operator and partner of the FENIX project.
The event was welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Michalis Papadopoulos, along with other Ministry representatives, as well as by the Commercial Director of PCT S.A., Mr. T. Vamvakidis, the Director of HIT/CERTH, Dr. E. Bekiaris and the Director of ICCS, Dr. I. Psarras.

Dr. G. Ayfantopoulou (HIT/CERTH), the coordinator of the Greek pilot of the project, introduced the attendees to the technical part of the meeting by presenting the FENIX project and the Greek pilot FENIXGR, while Mr. I. Kanellopoulos followed by presenting the technical content of the demonstration. Then the attendees had the opportunity to tour the port and observe the ongoing physical process of importing/exporting containers that is related to the FENIX digital service.

The participation of the Greek pilot in the FENIX project is coordinated by HIT/CERTH, as it is an initiative of the organization in cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) and the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), and the participation of various private sector bodies (K + N, TREDIT, INLECOM, CLMS, PCT, PCDC, PEARL).

The FENIX project creates three main benefits for the transport and logistics sector in Greece:
1.    Applies the guidelines of the European Union, as formulated by the Digital Transport & Logistics Forum (DTLF), for the implementation of the first integrated, pan-European digital information and    data exchange network in transport and logistics,
2.    Develops digital services that improve the operation of the transport and logistics sector in Greece, yielding significant economic and environmental benefits (e.g., significant reduction of operations, congestion, cargo visibility, traffic management, etc.), and
3.    Optimizes the Greek Transport and Logistics Observatory in order to be a reference platform for the entire Greek transport and logistics ecosystem, strengthening the dynamics of the sector in the planning and monitoring of operations and improving the position of Greek services in the European market.

About FENIX:
The purpose of the FENIX project (A European Federated Network of Information exchange in Logistics) is the implementation of the first integrated, pan-European digital network of information and data exchange in transport and logistics. The FENIX project is part of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program co-financed by the European Union. The project is implemented under the guidance of DG Move and the Digital Transport & Logistics Forum (DTLF). HIT/CERTH and ICCS are implementing bodies on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. HIT/CERTH acts as the coordinator of the Greek pilot, on behalf of the Ministry.
