On 9th October an event titled “The organization of International Transport as a guarantee for the development of commercial networks originating in Northern Greece” took place in Thessaloniki. The Hellenic Institute of Transport was represented by Dr. Maria Boile, Associate Professor at the University of Piraeus Department of Maritime Studies and Head of Unit on Transport Economics and Environment, Maritime and Air Transport, at the Hellenic Institute of Transport. At her presentation, Prof. Boile emphasized on the advantage of Thessaloniki and Thessaloniki Port Authority S.A. (THPA), from being located at the center of a 20 million people market, within a 600 km radius. As this market will grow in the coming years, the Port and the surrounding ecosystem will need to be more competitive in terms of cost, time and the provided level of service. Prof. Boile stressed the importance of synergies among the involved parties in order to create a Value System, to support relevant businesses located around the Port of Thessaloniki, with the port playing a key role and having a multiplier effect on value creation.
