The iBikeShare project, within the framework of the European Mobility Week 2020 invites the citizens of Thessaloniki to "Travel responsibly" in the city with the Thessbike system, by downloading the respective application for mobile phones.
This year, the theme of the event is "Zero-emission mobility for all" with special focus on electric mobility, cycling and walking.
In order to promote green mobility and increase the use of bicycles for daily commuting and not only for leisure, the iBikeShare project offers 5 hours of free cycling to those citizens who install the new Thessbike application on their mobile phone from 16 to 22 September 2020.
The application is available for Android and iOS and help users make bike rental easier than ever, as well as gives an opportunity to win prizes the more they use Thessbike bicycles.
The application includes gamification elements and aims to form a more positive attitude towards the use of bicycles, while the regular users are rewarded. Moreover, the application allows the users point out problems in the operation of the Thessbike system and in the overall cycling infrastructure of the city, contributing by that to the improvement of cycling in Thessaloniki.
The iBikeShare project is funded by the national action "Research - Develop - Innovate". The coordinator of the project is the Hellenic Institute of Transport of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (HIT/CERTH). Within the framework of the project HIT/CERTH collaborates with the companies BRAINBOX SA. and OTO SA, operating the bikesharing system in the city of Thessaloniki.
