Acronym: MOBILAIR
Project Title: Data Driven and User Centric Mobility for Air Improvement in the city of Thessaloniki
Duration: 24 months (1/9/2024 – 30/8/2026)
Description: MOBILAIR focuses on climate justice in the city of Thessaloniki and considers Air Quality Management and Sustainable Urban Mobility. MOBILAIR evaluates potential user-centric, data-driven Air Quality management measures, aiming to influence travelers’ behavior towards environmentally friendly Urban Mobility choices. The project is funded by the ICLEI Action Fund Greece and google.org.
Objectives: The main goal of the project is to identify the most environmentally degraded areas by correlating atmospheric and traffic data. Pollution concentrations and traffic profiles will be compared and correlated, and specific thresholds will be extracted for triggering of potential measures, which will be promoted to and evaluated by the public through an AI‐powered behavioral understanding mobile app.
HIT key role and responsibilities: CERTH/ HIT is the coordinator of the project and is collaborating with the Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics and the Environmental Informatics Research Group of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. CERTH/ HIT will analyze traffic data in Thessaloniki to identify the areas environmentally degraded by transport. Additionally, it will develop a mobile app to influence the travellers’ behavior. Among others, the app will provide re-routing suggestions, promotion of green transport and incentives for modal shift.
