Acronym: ReGenWesΤ
Project Title: Thessaloniki West Center Green Deal
Duration: 24 months (09/2024 – 08/2026)
Description: Thessaloniki’s pilot project, ReGenWest, is based on one of the core Actions of the Climate Contract, which focuses on creating climate-neutral districts with systemic solutions to enhance sustainable mobility, emphasizing urban regeneration interventions and ensuring social cohesion through a just transition.
The selected area, around the Passenger Railway Station, faces significant urban and social inequalities and degradation intensified by the years of metro construction. In the future, the area will integrate two metro stations and the physical changes from the metro's operation will transform the existing transport network. This will also lead to changes in land use, environment and the area's economy, as well as the social structure.
Objectives: The project aims to develop a holistic Local Green Deal by facilitating multi-level participation, serving as a governance model that unlocks the path to climate neutrality and can be replicated in other areas of the city.
HIT key role and responsibilities: HIT participates in all project activities and is scientifically responsible for the work package on urban mobility and urban freight interventions. This includes actions on green routes, low-emission zones, urban freight, Park and Ride and the development of a mobility data space.
