Title: Technical support related to sustainable urban mobility indicators
Duration: 24 Months (27.12.2017 - 26.12.2019)
Description: For Europe to reach its policy goals, cities need to track the impact of their policies through monitoring tools and appropriate common indicator sets. Only this will allow policymakers in urban areas and on the national and European levels to track progress and to develop more effective and fact-based interventions.
Objectives: The SUMI project will provide technical support to calculate a set of indicators related to sustainable urban mobility in more than 50 large and smaller urban areas of the EU.
The main project activities are related to:
- providing rigorous and consistent methodologies for acquisition, harmonisation and analysis of data; this includes the definition of a “mentor” for each indicator, i.e. a reference expert capable to sort out all related technical issues;
- giving technical support to the urban areas and systematically collect their hands-on experiences; appointed “urban area coaches” have the responsibility to establish direct links between the project consortium and the urban areas and help city administrations to gather the needed data;
- carrying on consultation, capacity building and dissemination actions addressed to subjects both inside and outside of the project;
- preparing realistic, harmonised and sound recommendations for further improvement and extension of the indicator system.
SUMI project is a service contract for the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport that has been assigned to Rupprecht Consult GmbH (coordinator), TRT, TM Leuven, Polis, Eurocities and UITP.
CERTH/HIT supports the project consortium with the ‘Urban Area Coach’ role for the urban areas selected in Bulgaria, Cyprus and Greece.
